Hello Will,
Garry here from the UK based Huge Systems Western European distributor, Polar Graphics.
Yes Dimedia is an option for FCP it is compatible with Mac and PC and supports up to 20+ streams of DV.
The Dimedia 1700 is currently going through final certification testing and we expect to have one in our offices before the end of the month. I think that this product is an excellent lower cost alternative to SAN technology and so soon as the product finishes Mac certification I will be ordering a unit to add to our fleet of demo equipment.
You will not need a seperate machine to run Dimedia. The Dimedia 1700 contains server and storage which can be accessed via a single 1G Ethernet port and therefore in addition to your two machines you will need a 1G Ethernet switch or hub.
Please contact me directly so that we can discuss your requirements further.
Garry
