hdv cpature sounds like a nightmare?

Our JVC HDV gear isn't being used for what its built for!

A little research shows me it seems to be a bit of a nightmare capturing hdv from tape? how are things going hdv-wise generally in premiere and indeed how are you finding the whole production suite? it does sound, well, suite!!!
