I don't know what you mean by [John Woodman] "FCP 6.0.4 can open the xdcam ex files, but quicktime does not recognize them. "

FCP can play and EX MOV, Quicktime should too. They're accessing the same component. You need to explain "open" and "recognize" given the above context.
