QUESTION: Do i really have to capture to sxs cards and then move it over via ilink??

No, you capture to the SxS card and then use Sony's free XDCAM EX Clip Browser software or Sony's free XDCAM Transfer software (I use both) to archive and then unwrap your clips on to your editing station's hard drive.

1) I use Clip Browser to archive the BPAV folder from the SxS card onto a portable hard drive (for archiving)

2) I use XDCAM Transfer to unwrap the clips into MOV's for use in Final Cut Pro. I think you'll want to unwrap them as MXF's for use in Vegas.

You connect the camera to your computer via a USB cable (not iLink). Or you can put the SxS card into a laptop that has an Express Card reader. Or you can buy Sony's USB SxS card reader.
