Sony PHU-60 Problems

I just got my EX3 and used it today for a shoot. About 10 minutes into the shoot, I started having problems with the PHU-60, 60GB hard drive. After recording about 5 minutes of footage it stopped recording and said the drive needed to be restored. Since what I shot was not that important anyway I restored the drive (I thought maybe that's what I was supposed to do before using the drive). However after restoring, I shot another 20 minutes or so and it did the same thing, stopped in the middle of a shot and told me I had to restore the drive. Unfortunately when I bought the EX3 I only got a 16GB card as I thought I would use the hard drive mostly as it would be adequate space. So unfortunately, we had to rebook the shoot (DANG!!) When I brought the HD back to the studio XDCAM Transfer and XDCAM Browser could not recognize the drive. Thankfully for some strange reason after trying several times I was able to import into FCP directly...
What is wrong with this drive. I just bought the EX3 and Drive from B&H on a couple of days ago. I am guessing I have the lastest firmware update but do not know how to check it.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!
