[Dan Powers] "Now how the heck do you scale down 1080i and have it look decent in SD?
Interlaced fields suck when scaled."

I've always shot HQ 1080p 30 except for one time when I wanted to match other Mini DV cameras shooting interlaced. My 1080p footage sure looks like progressive to me with one complete picture per frame and that 1080i footage sure did look different with 2 distinct fields visible.

Since your profile says you have a G5 I'm assuming you're using Final Cut Pro? If you want to edit using your delivery format I would suggest creating a progressive DVCPRO 50 Anamorphic timeline. If you look at the clip properties in the browser the field order of each media file should be set to "none". If they aren't you can right or control click in the field order box and choose "none" from the pop-up.

If you have FCP 6 you may want to consider editing in a Pro Res HQ progressive timeline. You can even edit in the native EX codec and set your renders to use Pro Res.

Drag your clips into the sequence and edit away. All my standard def EX down converts have been edited in a DV NTSC timeline to match my other cameras and the footage looks very good. No interlacing issues.

If you're editing in Premiere Pro then you'll have to wait for another reply and this tape will self-destruct in 15 seconds :)
