2.7 works FINE for EX1. It has additional features for XDCAM HD422.
Your reasoning makes no sense. It's like saying there's no reason to update Final Cut Pro, Vegas, Premiere because they've added support for an additional codec you don't have.
2.7 fixes bugs and has other minor improvements.
