XDCAM EX ingest workflow
by Ben Insler on Feb 6, 2008 at 7:22:29 pm

Hey all,

This may have been posted about before here or in an XDCAM threat, but I haven't seen anything as I've scanned through.

I'm curious about the EX tapeless workflow, specifically during the ingest/log and transfer phase. If you've seen the Vortex DVD, it's mentioned that a feature of the "XDCAM TRANSFER" software is that you can add in and out points and essentially Log your footage - obviously this can be a good thing. BUT, when you remove a source from the software, it discards ALL logging information.

Has anyone found a reliable way to preserve the files that hold this information for use later? They are clearly essential if you ever need to re-ingest your media from your source archive if your edit drive crashes. It would seem that, if you can't preserve this data, the only way to work would be to the entirety of any piece of media required for an edit, and pretend that the in and out markers don't exits.

Thanks,

Ben
