Might... if you have an area of the backgound clean of smoke and people that is the same area that has the smoke, you could put that over the area that has the smoke, however if the people then cross in front of it, they'll dissappear. That's why I asked earlier about if you had a clear area... and it would have to be clear throughout the shot. If it's not, the only real fix is to re shoot.
