"
and clients WILL be able to sit behind you
"
I haven't had this happen in a
very
LONG
time.
No one
wants to come to the studio at all now it seems, even for final approval. With Vimeo and even just iDisk now, I can just let them review iterations wherever they are in the world. Back in the years when I had Discreet Logic edit*,
EVERYONE
sat behind me during edit sessions. Now they don't care about hourly, only project costs, and they don't care which tools I use, they just want to see the
finished
product. That was the only reason I would consider getting a Smoke system, the very thing you are touting, that you can do so many things in "real time" with the client looking over your shoulder. The "A.D.D. generation" has even gotten worse now, where they can't sit in a chair for more than 20 minutes without going crazy. I do look forward to seeing you two shell out the bucks, and then report back to us every once in awhile to see how "real time" Smoke
really is
on the Mac, without the dedicated hardware to back it up. And if past history teaches us
anything
, ESPECIALLY with regards to Autodesk, by the time they
do
get the bugs worked out (thanks to paying beta testers like yourselves), they will come out with the new, working version of Smoke for 10k less in a year (just like they dropped the price on Combustion). I'll jump on the Smoke bandwagon then! But by all means let us know of your journey. Mileage may vary.
