Combustion has the best 2D paint tool in any compositing package - After Effects, Flame, Shake, Nuke, Toxik or Fusion - I've used the painting tool in each of them and Combustion is still far superior to all of them. In addition, Combustion's masking tool is much better than the ones in AE, Shake, and Nuke. Toxik is the only program with a masking tool better than Combustion's.

The other programs are good for some things and a lot of them have some of the cool tools that Combustion doesn't but paint and roto is the meat and potatoes of vfx and Combustion is still the best at those.
