I had a similar problem that was so bad that I had to move on and not use combustion 2008. Though I love the app I have been totally disappointed in Autodesk. They've not been totally honest about their intentions in this whole thing relating to Combustion and Toxik.
I believe that AD will probably give us one more release (that they'll expect everyone to upgrade to) and then we'll see the truth come about. That they want everyone to move over to Toxik. So, for me, unless the product will be on MAC and has a cross-grade price similar to my initial investment in Combustion of $995, that'll probably be where I will bow out.
I think that they could be handling this a helluva lot better but what can you do? While I wait for something on the 'fix front' I continue to use other tools to get the job done. I will say that I love the combo of Combustion with Imagineer's Mocha (tracking and roto). That's been a pleasure to work with.
