Amazing what locking the aperture will do! Glad it worked for you.

Two years ago I switched my stop action animation from a DV camera to a digital camera and have not looked back. Being able to shoot more than the anticipated frame allows for much more latitude in post production as well as some "zoom and pan" effects.
