I think that we are watching the emergence of a serious high-end integrated 'desktop' system. I agree with Alex, as a Final Cut Studio user this is hard to pass on. It's also very encouraging because they at least know that Shake in it's present state is still one of the most advance applications on the market. And, by dropping the price will gain what little sales that can be garnered before the next unveiling. And, with $50k licenses to the source code- some company's will seriously cut for that.
Shake will continue to be around for a while regardless.
