Border on paint objects

sort of noob here. I can't figure an easy way to have an edge border on paint objects in C4. Any object, whether circle, rect or b splines. The only way I came up with is to create my b sline paint object and then duplicate the layer and make that a stroke instead of filled residing a level higher in the tree. If I later change the filled shape, then I have to also edit the stroke layer, which takes more time and work.
Is there an easy way to just add a border edge to the b spline paint object operator?
