Table of contents and page numbering

Hello, I'm hoping that someone can help me with setting up automatic page numbering in my document. I'm trying to set up page masters so that the title of the page is prefixed by the section number, formatted like this e.g. '1.1 Page title'
I would like the prefix number to be in red and the title in grey. I have managed to get this far but my problem occurs with the automated table of contents. Because the prefix number and the title share the same paragraph format it gets imported by the table of contents except that the 1.1 is ignored and displays as the page number in relation to the document e.g. '5 Page title'. When I choose to display page numbering in the ToC I get '1.1 5 Page title'.
Just wondering if there is a better way to set this up...
