My initial tests with MXO2 mini (not max) and Premiere CS4 on a PC, are that it works nicely for editing video captured via HDMI into the Matrox i-frame codec (closest thing to prores or cineform without buying a mac or cineform), but if you try to play a native format, such as HDV (captured via firewire as mpeg) or h.264 from a 7d, and monitor in real time, it results in a Premiere crash - sometimes.
Also, the HDV captured as HDV mpeg vs HDV captured to Matrox, looked a lot different on playback - this is presumably the 4:2:0 vs 4:2:2 mentioned above. I could not decide which looked better - both versions had different saturation, crispness and contrast.
Honestly, however, I have put the MXO2 mini aside since then, as I have not had a break from project work to experiment adequately with workflow, especially given the amount of legacy HDV material already captured. Mixing legacy 4:2:0 HDV with new 4:2:2 matrox HD from HDV is also possibly problematic.
