Problems capturing from Sony DSR-40p

Hi Guys,

Currently having some issues capturing from the above VTR.

My set up.

MBP 2.6ghz
4GB RAM
MATROX MXO2
SONY DSR-40P

First I tried SDI (video on back of VTR and SDI in on MXO2)
I got a black screen - ah I know why, system prefs is set up to input component. Switched it to sdi - wrong. Preview disabled.

OK no worries, i'll capture through component. Set it up and the colours are off - tried using scopes in capture window but wouldn't play ball.

I'm currently capturing through firewire - bummer.

What is it - user error, VTR error, matrox error?

Any help, as always, gratefully received.
