MX02 Mini and HDV

Canon XHA1s records to HDV format without the MX02. With the MX02 mini, I can capture to 1920i format as well as 1440i. What should my capture settings be for best quality and editing in Adobe Premiere CS4? I ask because I have not yet been able to work without having to render everything.

Have I gained anything by adding the MX02?
