Max codec won't deactivate
by Zak Mussig on Nov 3, 2009 at 9:01:48 pm

Hey guys,

I got the Compress HD a few weeks ago and had trouble getting it to work with firmware versions 1.5.1 and 1.6, but I tried 1.8 yesterday and things seem to be working now. Finding the release notes was a big help it getting things going, particularly with regard to the known issue about the firmware not playing nice with multi-instance clusters. I submit my batch to "This Computer" to avoid the cluster issue, but keep the cluster (6 instances) set up for MPEG2 encoding (which still work on the cluster although h.264 encodes fail because the max codec is activated).

The problem comes in with trying to deactivate the codec. I understand it won't deactivate if a QT-based process is running (e.g. CompressorTranscode), but I've tried quitting Compressor, manually killing all Compressor or qMaster processes via Activity Monitor, stopping sharing for the cluster and no go. clicking deactivate does nothing and the button still reads deactivate.

I imagine I'll eventually encode all h.264 files via the Compress HD, but I'd prefer to not just have to uninstall the driver every time I need to encode during the testing phase. Any thoughts?

Always important to know: the system is running Leopard / FCS2 / QT 7.6 with all updates installed

Thanks,
Zak
