Matrox MXO2 capture to ProRes standalone (No FCP)

Can the MXO2 capture to ProRes without Final Cut installed if the computer is fast enough.
I want to get a used MacBook pro and install Veescope live on it along with using the MXO2 to capture the stream of a EX1 via the HD-SDI port. I don't want to have to purchase additional software to capture the stream. I will then take the HD and bring it to another location where my editing suite is.
I know Veescope Live claims to capture video but don't know what that really means as far as codecs go. I don't really want to capture uncompressed, ProRes HQ will be just as good for keying.
Hope this makes sense. I think the IoHD is a bit overkill since I really don't need to edit on this laptop and at $1,000 extra don't feel it is worth it.
