Thanks for your offer of help.

Sometimes Premiere cropping and/or motion effects work, but frequently attempting to adjust them results in crashes. Tried moving the clips down closer to Track 1, still the same. Often all that's required for a crash ("Sorry, a serious error has required a shutdown, we will attempt to save your project..." no other error message) is just using the slider to move a clip horizontally in teh crop effect, which is observable in the preview window before a crash. Seems to happen some clips, not others. Maybe mainly at the beggning of a sequence.

It's a Matrox project (I'm trying to get help from them too) and all the clips are Matrox DV CAM. (except for a couple of Mpegs on the timeline in other than the problem sequence in question, which are actually cropping and moving alright, though there was some instability setting those up also.)

I'm working with a sequence of about a mintue long. Every effect I add cuases new problems. I have to save every time I edit any clip, because about every five minutes it crashes. Several clips have speed adjustments. It appears to crash when I add effects under others - like say a dissolve under a crop effect. But there are only 3 video layers and 4 audio. There are hudnred of clips in the project bin, and I have about 20 similair sequences I'm working with. The project occupies about a GB of Ram in Processes.

I got over the cropping issue by figuring out the Matrox motion/cropper (which is harder to use) and disabling real-time preview for most effects. Some of the crashing places onte timeline have that effect though.

I had some short applications of the "Steady Move" plug-in but I got rid of those and that seemed to decrease the crashes. (Actualy it just enabled othe crashes those crashes were concealing...)
