Re: MXO2 NOT Dead on Arrival
by Ri Stewart on Jan 12, 2009 at 7:43:00 pm

I just talked with Matrox Support this morning. It appears that an HDMI->DVI adapter will not work with the MXO2. This means, that ANY monitor with a DVI adapter can not be used with the MXO2!

They also mentioned that firmware 1.3 will do both RGB & YUV monitors. Before, it would only work with YUV tv's (no computer monitors)

I can use a DVI->HDMI adapter via my MacBook Pro via Cinema Preview without incident on numerous TV's I found.

I really wish that Matrox would give a list of monitors that they guarantee will work with their box. To debug this locally, purchasing multiple monitors to try out isn't joyous. Especially if they need to be shipped!

They said a HP Dreamcolor works in 1:1, but it's a $2k 24" monitor.

They stated the Viewsonic vx2435wm clips the input beyond the safe titling areas.

Matrox uses Sharp LCD HDTV's at trade shows. They said most Sony's should work as well. My Westinghouse 1080p will not.

We are planning on packing up the MXO2 and a Macbook Pro and head off to the city to find a couple of new monitors. I will share the information we find.

Thanks again for all the help!

Ri
