Thanks for your comments.
I understand what you are saying and have found previously that the mainconcept video codec is as good as anything.
I believe the underlying question is..
Normal dv tape imported to pc to avi is fine.
From there, the premiere application exports in mpeg2 format (using mainconcept codec) which compresses and looses noticeable quality. (always will)
My question,
Will the Sony HD camera with it's own hardware codec for mpeg2 export to pc provide better quality than the mpeg export from ppro?
I'm sure the answer is yes.
So from here, my question is,...
Given ulead dvdws can only downsize quality to dvd level, what is the expected quality of the downsized, Sony camera exported mpeg2 file in comparison to the Premiere pro mpeg exported avi files from conventional non HD standard dv tapes?
Hope I haven't further confused the issue and thanks.
