Avid on Boot Camp on MacBook Pro

Just an informal FYI

I've just upgraded my MBP to Leopard and for giggles installed the PC version of Media Composer 2.7 to see if it would work (and to get my Avid chops back into gear).

I'm not doing anything critical, so don't take this as an endorsement, but all seems fine so far. I plan to see how multicam works with the Avid script function next - as soon as I finish installing FCP Suite 2.

I've also installed VMware (which offers the ability to run OSx AND Windows concurrently - or any other OS). I'd used Parallels before, but was less than thrilled with a certain bugginess as well as the company's lack of decent support - the general consensus on the web as well. So far VMware's been pretty good. It seems a bit more sturdy and versatile. That said, the only reason I'm using VMware is because of Quicken, the one PC program I truly need (the Mac version apparently blows). Another FYI - there will be a new version of Quicken for the Mac sometime this fall which will take advantage of the new advances in Leopard. Early pics Iooks like it'll be great.

It's interesting that the reason I migrated from the Mac to Windows 10 years ago was since much Mac development was ending, there was nothing I needed on the Mac anymore. Well, Mac software development is back with a vengeance, and to my biased mind it seems that much of the cutting edge development is geared towards the Mac (waiting with baited breadth for Lyn's response...).

Although Windows development is certainly still quite robust, there's nothing I need any longer on the PC. OTOH, it would be great if there were a Mac version of Cardscan, and an OSx update of the old Flipbook program would be nice, in addition to the new Edit 9.0 finally being Mac compatible...
