[Les Kaye] "All valid points Mike."

Odd that you would say that Les, as I was thinking just the opposite, having been there myself as you may recall. I seems to me that Mike is basing his decisions on his fear of the unknown, just as I did before you assuaged many of those fears. Coming from fear is no way to make decisions...

I was as much a fan of Windows as Mike or anyone. It was all I knew and I had become a wonderful troubleshooter too. So, the thought of switching to something else was absolutely terrifying. Of course, after spending about half an hour putting the parts into my new MAC I was more at home inside that box than I ever was inside any of the myriad of PCs I've owned over the years.

I think Mike's fear of the MAC is simply unfounded and he's limiting himself by ruling out all things MAC before he investigates the possibilities. The hardware "quirks" he fears are based upon expectations developed from years of working on the bleeding edge of the quirky Windows environment. The Apple OS is far less quirky and much easier to troubleshoot, even for a Windows pro, and the hardware is much less complicated.

I would recommend that Mike go to an Apple store and ask to look inside a MacPro. I think he'll be very pleasantly surprised to see how intelligently designed they are and how easy it is to install the few options that aren't preinstalled.

BTW, I was pleasantly surprised to see a post from Chef Ken of the FCP site this past week. He was in exactly the same position as Mike, but has decided to go with FCP. For his very first project he's cutting a seven camera concert video in DVCProHD using FCP's multicam feature. So much for fear...
