"you're left pretty much with one choice, Adobe"
Um, why would Avid even be out of the question?
[Ron Shook]
"Most everyone from the old gang has ended up on either Apple or Adobe,"
If you mean the 5-10 core posters here, that's correct. And out of that, there have been a few who later moved from Axio/PPro to FCP, so take that into account. From what I can see here in L.A. the majority of edit users have moved to FCP, with a large chunk also migrating to Avid. PPro useage in L.A. is negligible, whether on Axio or not. Anyway, since it seems system/platform choice is not a factor for your client base, that should not be an issue. Although why you would even consider an EOL'd "niche" product like Velocity, especially over more viable solutions, is a head scratcher.
An FYI - whatever you choose, it will NOT be edit. Each system have some edit-like features, and each will have its own benefits and its own hindrances. And regardless of what you move to, you will miss edit* for awhile. Until you don't. In any case, your workflow WILL change, some for the better, some not.
Finally, while it makes no difference to me what you end up with, I think you're being professionally foolish to not even look at FCP or Avid. There is a reason why they've become the systems of choice for professionals. As for FCP on a Mac, are you buying a computer or an editing system?
Good luck.
