Pat -
Along with nearly everyone else I think a slower migration to FCP would be the wise choice. There is no "hardware assist", HD or otherwise, in the FCP universe, there are only various I/O choices. Kona 3 would seem to be the heavyweight champ, but I've been very happy with the less expensive Blackmagic HD cards. The Intel Mac's ability to run PC software concurrently with Mac software makes a multi-OS shop a lot easier to manage. There is no learning curve for the Mac itself, the differences between it and PCs are too slight to mention, you can easily have both co-exist on the same network. Once lured over to the dark side you will probably be equally but differently frustrated by FCP, but that's why we have hair, so we can pull it out.
