Re: PPRO vs FCP - decision time

All very valid points. Which is why if it were up to me, I'd do a wholesale move to FCP or Avid. But it's not - and since things are currently working out for you quite well, it becomes baby and bath water stuff...

One reality however, is that workflow compatibility as opposed to software compatibility has become much more crucial over these last years. Meaning that yes, edit to Combustion, PPro to AE are all very powerful solutions, but in the end, they're not as important as a collaborative workflow with a common solution. Avid is still the king of broadcast even without After Effects or Motion integration, and FCP is becoming more ubiquitous even for those that rely on AE. Just be aware that you most likely will be trading in one set of frustrations for another.

Although I think FCP's benefits vastly outweigh PPro's, that doesn't mean it's not without it's own faults, many of them long-standing - which was true of edit, and is just as true with Avid and Premier Pro.

As for Ron's arguments, IMHO FCP is just too entrenched for broadcasters' gripes to be the sort of problem he envisions.
