Hey, a fight, and no one invited me !
WHAT A BUNCH OF BABIES (but what a wonderful thread). Are you guys a bunch of old losers, or WHAT ?
1) AVID is not going out of business. They are just not interested in selling a $1500 editing system. They have little customers like CNN and CBS who give them millions of dollars - if you had these customers, would you still care about your little piss ass corporate clients. Guys like you are my client base, but I would KILL for an opportunity to contract for CNN or ABC Network.
2) Vegas is not a shadow of what it once was. Vegas is more expensive, and more luxurious than ever before. AND IT YOUNG - just like the editors that are taking your jobs away with these "new fangled" editing systems. The top restaurants in the world, and the top chefs from every country open up in Vegas now, because there is so much money available to them. There are billion dollar casinos' that base their income earnings on expensive rooms, pool cabana suites, dining, and shopping and NOT gambling, and YOU GUYS are going to O'Sheas ? How about a nice place that serves $15 Martini's. Ooh - that's for the people that can actually afford to still do business with AVID.
3) I have been doing post production from the beginning, and I have worked with all the names mentioned here - and you know what - WHO CARES - what's new, what's hot, what the "young guys are using" is what is important. AVID is not dead yet, but when it dies (and when FCP dies, and when Premier dies), there will be SOMETHING ELSE, something better, cheaper, faster, and the YOUNG GUYS will know how to use it , and YOU WONT, and you will cry for the days of the D-Vision, and Convergence ECS-90. Time to go play shuffleboard, pal. NOT ME. I'm learning the new stuff - NO MATTER WHAT IT IS, NO MATTER WHAT BUGS I HAVE TO FIGHT THRU - and I'm going to vegas, and I'm gonna have a $15 martini.
The good old days are RIGHT NOW, and more are coming up real soon.
oops - time for my metamucil.
