Understanding HD

Hi,
I'm an editor in Dallas and I've been working for almost 30 years. I've worked in HD a few times in the last few years, but I have a large job coming up in 10 days and I am wanting a better understanding of what I'm dealing with here. The commercial was shot on film and I just gave the producer my specs which were HDCam 24p. Now I'm wondering though would it be better to work in 23.98 or 59.97, in p or i? I just need a deeper understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of working in different frame rates formats. I know it's kind of a broad question but can anyone help me sort this our or point me in the direction of an extremely detailed and comprehensive guide to understanding this. Thanks.
/sam
