Dear Hal-

I myself eased into the HD transition a few years ago using a high grade (SD) Canon IFxs wide zoom for nearly two years on my shiny new HDCam. My work was (and still is) all over HGTV, Food Network, Discovery, etc. My clients NEVER had nothing but happy things to say about the images produced using that lens. Eventually, I bit the bullet and upgraded to proper HD lenses...but only after I could afford it.

My advice: Buy yourself the best quality lens you can afford. A high quality SD lens will work quite nicely on your new HD camera, while you save up for the a good HD lens.

For those that may disagree with me on technical grounds, I'll offer this advice as well: Killing your cash flow, draining your reserves or taking on too much debt can easily kill your business faster than any "perceived" softness in your images.

Good luck and good shooting.
