Heh, heh...I suspect maybe Bob Z has captured the essence of many of our thoughts...and...ah...typed them out.

If you're going to be doing HD work for money...you really would be best off with a real HD array with redundant power supplies and a hot spare drive...

The data rate on one stream of many types of compressed HD does play back on a 7200 rpm drive, but editing the same footage requires the capacity to playout several streams and preview effects, etc.

The idea of using an internal drive isn't as unworkable as using a system drive, but any media drive(s) inside your computer will generate incredible amounts of heat...those drives are working constantly as opposed to a drive working in brief spurts, like a system drive which accesses relatively infrequently.

The array I have in my edit system runs well into the teens of thousands of dollars, and I don't think you'll find that that is unusual.

At least an external enclosure would probably be beneficial...
