Working at a post house with all of these decks in house, my experience is that HDCAM is the acquisition format, whereas HDCAM SR - HDCAM Senior as we like to call it :-) is the finishing format. Thats not to say you couldn't take a SR deck in the studio and run HD SDI out of a 950 or something and recorded 4:4:4 right to tape.
