capture to prores via firewire from AJ HD 1400 in FCP?

Is it possible to capture to prores via firewire from a DVCPro HD deck (1400) in FCP?
Trying to figure out what the workflow is. Shooting DVCPro HD 720P60. Mastering back to the 1400. Need to color correct and do a few effects.
I was told that Capturing the DVCProHD via HDSDI was inferior to the native firewire capture.. but seems to me that working in native DVCProHD will involve more lossy decode/encode stages. Can anyone enlighten me?
thanks
Jason
