3D cinema.... wow

Not sure where this post belongs....

I was interested in what others thought of where hi def 3D cinema is going and whether this is truly going to revolutionalise the film industry.

I saw U2 3D at imax recently. I was quite simply blown away by the aural and visual experience. It seemed so mindblowing on one hand but so incredibly immediate and intimate on the other.

The 'gimmick' of 3D payed off in my mind and in this film certainly didn't seem to be distracting or annoying, it was quite simply a brilliant way of enjoying cinema again. Which is curious considering the basis of the technology has been around for decades. Obviously, this is a vast improvement from the red/blue glasses of old, but does this mean we have a genuine watershed moment in cinema?

I would like to think so. I would love to see how drama plays out in a medium like this, my guess is that it could really work. There was something so intimate about the experience that it could only benefit character drama.. I would think. Love to see though if I am right.

Some pretty big directors are pricking up their ears to the idea after seeing its potential, the likes of James Cameron, Spielberg etc.
But we have been down this road before and heard the buzz about 3D cinema being the future and that nagging thought remains.

All I know is that is was quite simply one of the best cinema experiences, visually, that I have seen for quite a while.

What are all your thoughts?
In my mind I see no reason that we eventually would have our big screen tv's beaming out polarised light for our own 3D cinema.

Can you imagine watching sport like this??? wow...
