SONY SRW 5500 Display Settings Question (HDSR)

Driving me nuts. I've read the manual but can't find the answer anywhere, and I know it's simple.
How do I get rid of the orange lines (title safe) from the "character" output of this machine. Somehow our machine is hooked up with monitor outs going to an SD monitor through the HD-SDI out on the back. I have no idea how that's providing a downconvert, but even so, does anyone know where in the menu I can get rid of these bars? If I try to do a downconvert they will be in the dub.
Thanks,
Joey
