Hi Scott,

The problem is not the dust. The issue is electrical power. You will probably have access to electricity only at certain times, but not always... and you may need to prepare for this.

The HDCAM camcorder is a fine news/EFP camera. In my opinion, it can take more shaking and hard knocks than the other options mentioned.

If you only have ONE HDCAM camcorder, that's bad news. Take two... one to be your work horse camera, and the other for B- roll.

Bring somebody along who was born in Afghanistan and who can translate for you... somebody who can explain the unwritten rules of society. And, it always helps to know their history (past 200 years.)

Afghanistan is a 220v 50Hz country. I would bring electrical power adapters on this trip.
