Can I work with HD on this computer?

Hello
I have to edit a project shot on Panasonic AG-HVX200. I have a macbook pro with this specifications:
2.33GHZ intel core 2 duo
2GB ram 667 MHz DDR2 SD RAM
Mac OS X 10.4.11
I have never worked with HD material.
Would it work fine or very slow with this computer?
They told me they have the footage on a couple of hard drives. Would i need to convert them to a specific format before starting editing or can I use the footage they captured with the capture cards?
the codec is DVCPRO HD right?
thank you very much
