Re: SDI/Component/Reference cables?

[Bob Zelin] "but once you start getting into complex systems, patch bays, and long runs, you will get yourself into trouble using cheap crap cable that is not rated to work at over 1.5 Gigahertz."

I have a question about the patch bays part. I have a Beta and DVCPro deck that feed component cables into my NLE, and my NLE feeds component back to the decks and various monitors through a patch bay.

By running everything through a patch bay, am I losing signal quality when it runs through the patch cable? From a purist standpoint, would it be better to run the deck directly to the NLE and back out? In my case these are very short runs from the equipment to the patch bay (less than 6 feet at the longest run) so I'm assuming I'm not losing much (if any), but I would like to know if there is signal loss when any cable (no matter how crap or great) is put through a patch bay or router.

Michael.

PS. Bob, the only reason I have a patch panel for my little set up is because I read one of your fantastic posts (rants?) about them and found some in a box at work. I must say, they are fun.
