Tom BridgesArri D20/HDCAM SR offline workflow
by on Oct 19, 2005 at 3:22:19 pm

We've got an upcoming shoot with Arri's D20 recording directly to HDCAM SR. It will be mostly shot at 30p and retimed to be edited on a 25p timeline so we can slow down by 20% or so. Ultimate deliverables are an SD PAL Digibeta, and an uncompressed 4:4:4 HDCAM SR master. Editing will be done on an FCP-based system.

I'm currently having difficulties getting my head round an offline workflow because of the retiming. Is there any way I can dub the SR tapes to DVCPRO HD, whilst maintaining timecode and flagging the footage as 30p? Even if I can do this, I think I still run into difficulties with a 25p DVCPRO HD timeline anyway?

It'd be great if anyone's got any ideas. I think we might just bite the bullet and digitise the lot at 4:4:4, retime what I need in Shake and edit uncompressed.

I'll post some stills after the shoot if anyone's interested.

Many thanks,

Tom
