Is HDMI->SDI converter compatible with computer displays?

Hello,
I was curious, has the HDMI to SDI converter been tested with normal computer displays, such as DVI outputs from NVidia or ATI or Intel embedded GPU's?
Also does the converter have a build-in frame-buffer for re-clocking, or does the input over the HDMI port have to be a SMPTE timing, or extremely close to SMPTE timing (i.e., computer monitors even at 60Hz use the more flexible VESA timing standards, which means many PLL's can't lock onto the signal from a normal DVI monitor if all they are looking for is a SMPTE signal)?
Thanks,
Jason Rodriguez
