It sounds as though you may have accidently stopped the recording yourself. Do you have the camera setup so the tally light is on to the point where you can see it from your second camera position? If that was on, and you still had a problem, I would be more concerned.

If you don't that tally on, I would turn it on. I would also make sure you camera is setup so a remote can not be used with it. Both settings are in the manual if you need further instruction.
