I always connect all pieces before powering up. Yeah, there was some posts about surge issues plugging-in while hot.

It's easy to have FCP to record the HDX900 FW signal. Just open FCP, use Easy Setup, pick you settings and go to Log & Capture. The camera appears ready to record.

What are you using for storage? In my MacBook Pro, I have a eSATA card running to a small 2-drive external RAID. Works perfectly.
