Many DSLR HDMI out may be sending something other than stand HD frame size and frame rate. If it's not a standard signal, Blackmagic cards may not recognize it.

[Marc Dewey] " I also tried hooking up my DVD player & laserdisc player using composite/component/S-Video & HDMI. They all worked except HDMI, which the BM support guy informed me was due to copyright protection."
HDCP. Any device using commercial content is likely to have this to prevent you from make digital clones. This would include DVD and Blu-ray players but there are many other devices that have HDCP built in for legal reasons.
