Hello

The good people at Blackmagic referred me to this site in search of help.

I am employed as a Pathologists' Assistant at a multi-sited hospital in Ontario, Canada. Since I know a little about audio/video and computers, I have been assigned the task of implementing a video link between Pathology departments at different hospitals. We would like to show surgical specimens (eg. colon cancers, breast cancers, etc) that have been removed at one hospital site to a Pathologist at another site for evaluation prior to processing.

Currently, I have set up a webcam at one site to accomplish this. We use Microsoft Office Communicator to transmit the image with audio. The problem is that we cannot get a good quality image with a $50.00 webcam. Would like to use a camcorder, but Office Communicator cannot communicate with a camcorder.

Ideally, we would like to have to option of 3D imaging as well. After some research, I have come up with a list of epuipment that I am recommending to purchase. Please keep in mind that our hospital budget is very limited, so we cannot go out and buy a complete system that is available ($20 000).

I would like to use the following equipment:

Camera: Panasonic HDC TM900 (with the addition of a 3D lens if needed)
Video Capture Card: Decklink Blackmagic HD Extreme 3D
Video Display Card: NVidia GeForce GTX 280 3D
Monitor: Panasonic 3D Plasma Television (50")

I am not sure what to use to communicate between sites. Is there a program that will accept the feed from a camcorder and provide a secure link for us, like Offce Communicator?

Also, will the equipment work properly together? We really cannot afford to purchase this equiment and not have it work. At the very least, if it works in 2D mode it will be very successful for us.

Thank you very much for any input.

Steve
