Aha! So what would be another way to do a pay-per-view? With the timed rentals you actually download the file to your computer ... so it's not streaming and you can get a smooth play.

I can imagine one might set up a situation where you give a pay-per-view client a password to stream the film from Vimeo or some other server setup (even one's own). But it would be streaming, and not that smooth, and that password would surely get passed on to friends etc.

So that's what I'm curious about - other ways to do a pay-per-view.

I've just shot a conference, maybe twenty presentations. There is a specific audience for these presentations (pay-per-view or download), but not big enough in terms of purchasing DVD's to make it worth the effort to do all the packaging.
