rates for videographers in So Cal

Greets, The last post of the gentleman looking for a videographer caught my attention. A friend brought up the suggestion of me making an event dvd for an organization she belongs to, to sell to the participants and I've been kicking around what the thing would cost to produce. I would do the editing and dvd authoring, but have no experience and knowledge with a videocam other than home movies, so I need to hire a free-lancer.
From what I gleaned from some websites, most camera ops charge daily rates and supply their own equipment. What would be a good way to locate someone in the Southern California-Orange Co. area to do this kind of work? How much should I expect to pay? It's probably preferable to have more than one camera, but that would depend on the bottom line. I know the sky's the limit, but I don't need any emmy award winners for this minor project, but I DO need someone who knows what they're doing so I get decent footage to work with. Any suggestions much appreciated. UJ
