(Coral Springs, Florida--October 22, 2008) da Vinci Systems, LLC, a subsidiary of JDS Uniphase Corporation, today announced that London post-production house Rushes has selected the company's new Resolve R-250® digital mastering suite with its Impresario™ control interface to perform color correction and DI finishing.
The new system is being deployed primarily on commercials, but also will be utilized on long-form dramas, music promos, and other projects for U.K. and international clients.
"Rushes is a unique company that provides the highest level of client service and always strives to produce the best pictures possible — no excuses," said Joce Capper, Rushes managing director. "That's why we are the first commercials facility in the U.K. to purchase the Resolve R-series. It is the best digital mastering suite out there, and it will give us a competitive edge because it gives our clients more options than ever before. Simply put, we will blow their socks off!"
Most of Rushes' work originates in 35 mm film that is scanned at 2K with a pin-registered machine, retaining all the exposure range of the negative to afford the highest quality results possible throughout the post-production chain. Material is ingested into a Bright Systems SAN, from which it can be accessed directly by the Resolve system, as well as by VFX and CG systems, in a streamlined workflow that eliminates the intermediate step of recording data to tape. Because the Resolve R-250 can work in multiple formats, it will enable Rushes to maintain its busy commercial enterprise, as well as tackle a wider variety of projects in the future.
Introduced in April 2008, the da Vinci R-series product line runs on an advanced GPU-based engine to optimize speed and power and offers flexible, real-time throughput of nonlinear images in film, television, and commercial applications. Impresario is da Vinci's innovative new control environment that offers hard- and soft-key functionality, user-defined flexibility, and an ergonomic design for ease of use. Rushes' Resolve suite, equipped with Impresario, was delivered and installed in August 2008.
"Our new processing engine delivers dramatically improved speed and functionality, enabling our designers to build in creative color tools for our customers while at the same time making workflows more efficient," said Dean Lyon, director of marketing at da Vinci Systems. "At Rushes, commercial work keeps the equipment, the artists, and the technicians busy 24/7. The Resolve R-250 will be a great match that supports both their current needs and future growth."
