th1ng appointed to create London film in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games

(London--July 1, 2008) Award winning production company, th1ng, has been chosen to create a film highlighting several of London’s outstanding cultural and business successes and help raise the profile of its film industry and talent in the build-up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The London Development Agency (LDA) commissioned Film London, the capital’s film and media agency, to oversee the selection process and manage the project.
The film will be first shown this Summer at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games as part of a wider LDA initiative to promote London’s creative industries to international business audiences.
th1ng’s award winning director Martyn Pick, who has collaborated previously with Film London on his production “Green”, an eight minute live action drama, has been chosen to direct the new film.
th1ng was commissioned by the LDA and Film London following a competitive selection process. The brief was to make a film that embodied the edge and glamour of London and th1ng’s production will feature sequences of iconic London themes and highlight the city’s cultural diversity.
Live action sequences are to be the core of the film and these will be enhanced by a range of effects including a series of time lapse, motion blurs, and light variations. Pick will also make the most of his “fine art” credentials to hand paint images into the texture of live action.
The film will be about five minutes in duration and will be entirely storyboarded, directed, edited, and composited in-house at th1ng.
Martyn Pick, who previously directed idents for the BBC Euro 2004 trail, said: “The film will promote London in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games, so our main challenge is to ensure that in the sequences that depend on effects we retain the timeless feel and essence of London”.
Dominic Buttimore, th1ng’s executive producer said: “We are delighted to have landed this exciting project and very proud to contribute our own creative output at this inspiring time for London”.
David Adam, Head of Emerging Markets at the LDA, said:” When you see London you recognise it instantly as one of the world’s most vibrant and creative cities and the leading location for business, investment and tourism. Through this film more people across the world will see what London has to offer.”
